Born and raised in the United States' oldest city of St. Augustine, Florida, Kling rejoins the names of fellow elite East Coasters including Slater and the Hobgoods as the finest surfing stock the Atlantic side of the states has to offer on the prestigious ASP Dream Tour in 2009. The powerful natural-footer's rookie year on the ASP World Tour came in 2007, but he was unable to requalify for 2008. Kling battled through severe illness and injury throughout his 2008 ASP WQS campaign and managed to make an impressive charge back to the top of the rankings with a tear beginning at the U.S. Open. Kling's charge to the top finds him amongst the names of surfing's finest competitors once again, proving that he has the talent and dedication to compete alongside the ASP Top 45.
With one year already under his belt on the ASP Dream Tour, Kling will approach this season with more experience than the flurry of new faces gracing the Top 45. Kling's experience combined with his proven dedication and determination could make him a threat to all surfers in 2009.
